Sometimes, due to outside circumstances like power outages or Windows errors, the service that PCS Hardware link uses to connect the browser to your receipt printers and cash drawers may be stopped or have issues. Below are some basic troubleshooting steps that you can perform to attempt to fix the issue quickly on your own!
Restarting the Service
If your POS station has already had PCS Hardware link installed and is no longer showing that the Hardware link is installed, this may be because the service that PCS Hardware Link runs did not automatically start for some reason. The following steps will walk you through how to restart that service manually.
Step 1-Open Task Manager
There are several ways to open task manager. The easiest is to simply type Task Manager into the Windows search bar.
Step 1a-More Details
Often, when task manager is not used on a computer, it opens in a simplified view that does not allow the functions that we need. Clicking "More Details" will allow us to see all of the detail we need.
Step 2-Viewing Services
Once we have opened Task Manager, we will want to navigate to the Services tab, as shown below.
From there, we will look for the service named PCS.HardwareLink. If you cannot find the service, you may need to install Hardware Link to create the service.
Step 3-Services Status
Once we have found the service, you can look down the row to view its status as running or stopped. If the service is running and you are still unable to use the Hardware Link, give us at support a call. If the Service is stopped, you can right-click on the row and click "Start" to begin the service. Once you have done that, you will need to refresh your browser to have it recognize that the Hardware Link is now installed and running.
